Book a table directly with a tent, as a group of eight to ten, as soon as that tent opens reservations. If you miss out, a share of seats in the big tents is never reserved, so arrive early as a group.
For groups, the hard part is not getting in but getting a table: Tables are reserved directly with each tent; many require a minimum group size and food and drink vouchers per person.
The slot matters more than the tent: lunchtime reservations are the easiest to get; weekend evenings the hardest. Sort the tent first, then the stay. See the official reservation pages.
